My post Just Sharing has gone away. Don’t ask me where. I just can’t find it. I can’t seem to find anything these days. I had shared about my dad’s death and my mom’s Alzheimer’s. No need to revisit.
My sister, Merilee, and I have been living in our parent’s home for the past two weeks, trying to sift through the mountains of “stuff” they squirreled away for the past 63 years. It is beyond our comprehension why two people would save every possible thing from their life prior to their marriage and during their 68 years of marriage. I guess when you are Depression Era babies you make sure you have 100 soup cans in a cabinet. I don’t know. They kept every letter, every response to their letters, every credit card, expired or not, every ticket stub, etc. It goes on and on. After spending hours in the attic of the pool house at 100 degrees, grubbing around in rat !@#$, hauling out boxes and boxes filled with mostly throwaway contents, I was cursing my parents. I really don’t mean it. There are things to laugh about and memories to be found. All I can say is, I will never do this to my children. You might want to start now in sifting through your own stuff to save your family from possible exposure to hantavirus, spider bites, and surprising all the rodents that are running rampant and procreating in your treasures. I think I’ll write a book about this. Hah!
